Terms of Use
End User License Agreement (EULA) · Last updated: June 2026 · Effective immediately upon account creation
Please read these Terms carefully before using DebatingRoom. By creating an account or using the app, the parent or legal guardian agrees to these Terms on behalf of themselves and their child(ren). If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and DebatingRoom ("we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the DebatingRoom mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
By downloading, installing, or using the Service, or by clicking "Continue" or "Subscribe" during account registration, you represent that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, including our Privacy Policy.
These Terms also constitute an End User License Agreement (EULA) pursuant to Apple's App Store Review Guidelines. Apple Inc. is not a party to this EULA and has no obligation to provide maintenance, support, or warranty services for the Service.
2. Eligibility and Parental Consent
DebatingRoom is designed for students in grades 4–8 (approximately ages 9–14). All accounts must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years old.
By creating a parent account, you confirm that:
- You are the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren) using the Service.
- You provide verifiable parental consent for your child(ren) to use the Service.
- You take full responsibility for your child's use of the Service.
- All information you provide during registration is accurate and complete.
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If we discover that a child under 13 has created an account without parental consent, we will delete that account and any associated data immediately. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
3. Accounts and Responsibilities
Parent accounts are created with an email address and password. Parents are responsible for keeping their credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under their account.
Child accounts are created by parents with a username and password. Parents are responsible for managing their children's login credentials and monitoring their use of the Service.
You agree to:
- Provide accurate and current information during registration.
- Notify us immediately at support@debatingroom.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
- Not share your account credentials with anyone outside your immediate family.
- Not create more than one parent account per family.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms.
4. License Grant
Subject to these Terms and payment of any applicable subscription fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use DebatingRoom on Apple iOS devices that you own or control, solely for your and your child(ren)'s personal, non-commercial educational use.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
- Remove or obscure any proprietary notices or labels on the Service.
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or these Terms.
Apple has the right to enforce this EULA as a third-party beneficiary with respect to your compliance with these license terms.
5. Subscriptions and Billing
DebatingRoom is a subscription-based service. Full access to debate practice sessions, AI coaching, and multiplayer rooms requires an active subscription.
Plans:
- Single Plan — $1.99/month: For families with one child.
- Family Plan — $2.99/month: For families with up to 5 children.
Billing through Apple: All subscriptions are processed through Apple's in-app purchase system. Your Apple ID account will be charged when you confirm your subscription. Payment will be charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID Account Settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then. We do not provide refunds for unused portions of a billing period.
Free trials: If a free trial is offered, any unused portion of the free trial will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Offer Codes: We may offer promotional codes through Apple's Offer Code system. These codes are subject to the terms displayed at redemption and cannot be exchanged for cash.
Price changes: We may change subscription pricing with reasonable advance notice. Continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes your acceptance of the new price.
Subscription management and refund requests are handled through Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
6. Acceptable Use
You and your child agree to use the Service only for lawful, educational purposes. You must not:
- Use the Service to harass, bully, threaten, or harm other users.
- Post or transmit content that is obscene, hateful, discriminatory, or inappropriate for children.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts or our systems.
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access the Service.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state your affiliation.
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our written permission.
- Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or overload our servers or infrastructure.
We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate any account that violates these rules, without prior notice.
7. User Content
"User Content" means debate arguments, voice recordings, typed responses, and any other content you or your child submit through the Service.
You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, process, and display that content solely to provide and improve the Service.
We do not sell User Content to third parties. Voice recordings submitted for transcription are processed by our AI service provider and are not stored long-term. See our Privacy Policy for details.
You represent that your User Content does not infringe any third-party rights and complies with these Terms.
8. AI-Generated Content
DebatingRoom uses artificial intelligence (OpenAI's GPT models) to provide debate coaching, argument analysis, scoring, and feedback. You acknowledge that:
- AI-generated feedback is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional instruction.
- AI responses may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or not reflect your child's full abilities.
- Scores and grades generated by the AI are educational estimates, not official academic assessments.
- We are not responsible for decisions made based on AI-generated content.
Parents are encouraged to review AI feedback with their children and provide additional context where appropriate.
9. Privacy and COPPA
We take the privacy of children seriously. Our collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verified parental consent provided through the parent account creation process.
Parents have the right to review, correct, or delete their child's information at any time by contacting us at privacy@debatingroom.app.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service and all content within it — including but not limited to the app design, logos, text, graphics, debate topics, and software — are owned by DebatingRoom or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or brand names without our prior written permission.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy or completeness of any AI-generated content.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so the above exclusions may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL DEBATINGROOM BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOST PROFITS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE THREE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on liability, so the above may not fully apply to you.
13. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by cancelling your subscription and contacting us at support@debatingroom.app to request account deletion.
We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.
Upon termination, your license to use the Service ends. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 10, 11, 12) will survive.
We will delete your account data within 30 days of a deletion request, except where retention is required by law.
14. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email to the address on your parent account. The updated Terms will be effective as of the date stated at the top of this page.
Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and cancel your subscription.
